Gaspare Cusenza founded CusenzaMarmi 50 years ago, an artisan company for the artistic working of marble. In 2016 he was among only 75 Italian craftsmen to be included in the golden book of Italian artisan excellence, receiving the prestigious title of master of art and craft in the presence of the head of state Sergio Mattarella.
In 2018 he was appointed virtuous ambassador of the territory with a ceremony at Palazzo Madama, the seat of the Senate.
He was born in 1945 in the countryside of Erice, a small area of western Sicily for centuries center of excellence in the extraction and processing of marble...
His open-mindedness led him without delay to embrace new information technologies, supported by his son, an expert in information technology, they decided to buy robotic machinery for processing marble, thus expanding the possibilities of the company and at the same time reducing the time of the production phases.
Over the years, however, the master Cusenza understands that his experience risks a sterile end and decides to hire young apprentices to transmit the techniques and secrets of marble processing, convinced that the difference lies in the human value able to exploit new technologies to perfect their craftsmanship, with current taste, while maintaining the centrality of the hand of man: a new figure is born, evolved craftsman, fusion between the classical artist and the digital craftsman.
Making use of the teachings of the master and the experience acquired over the years, the team of the master Cusenza constantly improves the quality of the workings managing to face new and exciting challenges. In the following years, the company expands its customer base becoming a reference point for various architects and designers who find in CusenzaMarmi an always attentive, specialized and able to marry new technology with the wisdom of craftsmanship.
In the mid-90s he was chosen with the important and prestigious task of carrying out the adaptation of the liturgical sites of the cathedral of Trapani. Crispino Valenziano defined in his book “I nuovi luoghi liturgici della Cattedrale di Trapani” (1998) the liturgical adaptation of the cathedral of Trapani as the first splendid example of the liturgical reform of the places of celebration in Italy.
The experience he has acquired and the recognition of his professionalism have allowed him to become a point of reference, producing over the years sacred furnishings such as altars, ambos and baptismal fonts in various dioceses of Italy and America. He is listed among the trusted sculptors of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) having demonstrated deep knowledge of the symbolism and rites of Catholic worship.
In recent years CusenzaMarmi has become a growing protagonist on the world scene, receiving orders from important institutional and private figures of international level such as the Vatican, the State of Qatar, the Sultan of Oman, the BBCC in Rome, the designer Domenico Dolce, the president of the Congress of European Jews Moshe Kantor, Elena Ambrosiadau, among the richest women in England, etc..
It thus joins the small circle of artisans able to evolve the concept of “made to measure” for an exclusive clientele, enriching it with the constant search for materials, workmanship, unique finishes that characterize the high craftsmanship of the excellence of Made in Italy.
He experiments with the combined use of marble and precious materials such as gold, silver, mother-of-pearl, etc. and the contrast between stone and crystal, wood, steel, ceramic, corten, etc.. Aware that the use of metals and precious stones does not automatically make an object “beautiful”, that without the right balance you risk creating sumptuous objects that do not have the slightest taste.
Master Gaspare has always thought that beauty is a delicate balance of contrasts to be measured wisely and in his creations he is always attentive to this aspect by constantly collaborating with customers to obtain, without surprises, the work that reflects the initial idea.
Among the most successful realizations there are finely inlaid floors, realizations of coats of arms and real emblems, bathtubs entirely covered with mother-of-pearl tiles, a series of wall fountains in Sicilian baroque style, ex novo realization of a private church in Sicilian baroque style, design objects for the international project “La Casa di Pietra”, etc..
Today CusenzaMarmi is the pride of Made in Italy, understood not as a simple brand but as a way of being, the result of the creativity, inventiveness and industriousness of the Italian people.
