More about the maker...

Before being drawn into this she knows the ins and outs of the trade like nobody else. She has one of the best collections of hat blocks in Spain and her technique is faultless. Since 1987, after a ten art cum trade, creating and making hats or anything related to covering the head, Charo Iglesias abandoned her university studies at the drop of a hat and totally dedicated herself to what was from the beginning her passion, the hat. She nevertheless still appreciates what university had done for her during those years, which was to form her character.

She knows the ins and outs of the trade like nobody else. She has one of the best collections of hat blocks in the country and her technique is faultless. Since 1987, after a ten year apprenticeship, she set up her own business in Madrid, and has collaborated with some of the best fashion designers, she has created personalised hats for important public and private ceremonies. The most reputable and well-known publications have featured her work, but Charo Iglesias has not let success go to her head. She becomes excited, as if it was the first time, when tracing first class materials for her hats, even though she has to travel to places as far as Paris, Florence or New York in order to procure them.

Charo knows the importance of tradition in her trade, and that materials and technique are her best allies. She also knows that it is essential to renovate and an inherent obligation in any creative activity: to reflect the world we live in. This designer of hats knows how to do this and currently she is preparing to introduce new shapes into her hats, and she will continue to use her knowledge of colour as well as the secrets of the trade she has learnt from Josef Albers and many other artists she knows so well.

Charo Iglesias Atelier has colaborated with designers as Pedro del Hierro, Manuel Piña, Jesús del Pozo, Elio Berhanyer and Roberto Torretta amongst many others. Theatre has been, providing hats during eight years to the Teatro de la Zarzuela, and to the musical "My Fair Lady" by Stage Entretainment (Ascot scene). In 2012 she was a finalist in the Spanish Nacional Crafts Award.

Henar began working as an apprentice when she was fifteen, and after getting an university degree on Maths, she became a proffesional milliner, and started to discover her passion for feathers. Soon after, she stared to make her first works on interior decoration, applying the mosaic technique to furniture and creating beautiful tapestries.

Currently Henar works as a milliner and a feather arstist. She manages Taller Charo Iglesias and she is a member of the Spanish Millinery Asociation. She gives training on several crafts, and spends most of her time investigating and developing feather art, and creating unique pieces.
